29 <br /> Report of the Dog Officer <br /> To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and <br /> Citizens of the Town of Mashpee <br /> I herewith submit my annual report for the Dog Depart- <br /> ment for the year ending December 31, 1971. <br /> Calls logged 206 <br /> Complaints investigated 163 <br /> Court cases 1 <br /> Dead dog complaints 7 <br /> Dead dogs picked up 5 <br /> Dog bites reported 18 <br /> Dogs disposed of 18 <br /> Dogs hit by cars 4 <br /> Dogs found unlicensed 35 <br /> Dogs impounded 62 <br /> Dogs restrained 20 <br /> Dogs returned to owners 33 <br /> Dogs sold 3 <br /> Fines & fees collected and <br /> turned in to treasurer $96.00 <br /> Lost dog complaints 51 <br /> Monkey bite reported 1 <br /> Racoon bite reported 1 <br /> Warnings given to unlicensed <br /> dog owners 8 <br /> Wild cat complaints 2 <br /> Total miles recorded 1,327 <br /> This has been a challenging first year for me as dog <br /> officer and indeed a very busy one. <br /> I have answered calls as early as 6 a.m. and as late as <br /> 3 a.m. but I have found the majority of dog owners have been <br /> very cooperative making my job much easier and more en- <br /> joyable. <br /> The Town Kennel was moved from John's Pond to my <br /> property on Mashpee Lake because it was impossible to <br /> drive into it in rainy weather because of the long muddy <br /> road leading to it. The town is in much need of a larger ken- <br />
