i
41
I
Report of the Wild Life Conservation Officer r
Law Enforcement, Town of Mashpee
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee
I take great pleasure is reporting to the Board of Selectmen
and the citizens of the Town of Mashpee regarding the advance- fl
ment made during the year 1972 by the Wildlife and Conservation
Division of Law Enforcement with regard to wildlife and land
resources.
I first wish to take this opportunity to thank the Board of jl
Selectmen, the Conservation Commission, and the Police Depart-
ment for bringing to my attention complaints having to do with
wildlife or land resources. The year 1972 has been a busy one,
investigating many infractions of the law for fish and wildlife. It
is unfortunate that many of these complaints could not be followed
as closely as desirable, nor proper investigation made, due to the
fact that we still do not possess a 4-wheel drive vehicle to cover
the areas that are impossible for a regular car to reach. Since
practically all violations have occurred, and will occur, in in-
accessible areas it is most imperative that consideration be given
to the procurement of such a vehicle. If necessary, the use of this
vehicle could be combined with usage for another purpose or pur-
poses but it must be understood that in order to be aware of abuses
to our land, fish, and wildlife, including precautions against the
hazards of forest fires, and mutilation and destruction of woods,
and the florae and faunae native to the Town of Mashpee, and
the preservation of such, there must be accessibility to these areas.
I sincerely urge once more that the purchase of such an item be
prepared for.
We have had many complaints of violations of the Hatch Act
and these were investigated and turned over to the proper State
authorities for further investigation.
I personally feel that as the Town is growing, problems are
growing and will continue to grow, and at this time I would like to
state that the time is coming when the Town will have to have a
full-time law enforcement officer in order to do proper justice to
