j 60 Report of the Wild Life Conservation Officer To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee: I take great pleasure in reporting to the Board of Select- men and the citizens of the Town of Mashpee, as I approach my fifth year of services, as Wildlife and Land Resources �{ Officer for the year of 1973. I report the following: There were forty-eight law violations which were investi- gated by the undersigned and ten Land Resources violations, which were also investigated and proper action taken. In reference to Wildlife violations, I would like to bring to the attention of the citizens of the Town of Mashpee, that of all the unnecessary shooting, killing, and cruelty to Wildlife, as reported to me, is that of the shooting of an immature, Bald Eagle at the South Cape Beach in Mashpee, which was found shot and still alive, by a man who pro- ceeded to take the Bald Eagle to the Animal Hospital on route 151, in Falmouth. After I was informed, I proceeded to investigate and found that it had been taken to Boston Animal Hospital. After a week, it was reported dead. This destruction of Wildlife is unnecessary and deplor- able. It will. continue as long as we don't put the effort to stop it by having full time Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers as many other towns on the Cape have. At this time I would like to take this opportunity to thanks the 'Citizens of Mashpee, who call for my services or to bring violations to my attention. Also, many thanks to the Board of Selectmen, Conser- vation Commission, and to Chief Bingham and the Police Dept. for all their assistance to the Wildlife and Land Re- sources Dept. of the Town of Mashpee.
