In presenting our best exhib.- <br /> its, we expect to compliment these with loans from the <br /> following museums: National Plymouth Wax, Boston Chil- <br /> dren's Museum, Peabody Museum, Harvard, New Bedford <br /> Whaling Museum, Plimoth Plantation, Yarmouthport Histor- <br /> ical, Falmouth Historical, The Macy Collection, and Sand- <br /> wich Library. <br /> During the winter months an invitation was extended to <br /> the people of Mashpee to join our "Friends of the Museum.". <br /> To date, the response has been excellent and, hopefully we <br /> shall entertain the members at the Museum in the near <br />.;, future. <br /> This Commission was represented by Amelia Bingham <br /> at the annual American Museum Association in Milwaukee <br /> during June 1973. Application for membership was accepted <br /> and doors began to open to help us. Urgent expertise was <br /> offered in forms of workshops which we desperately needed. <br /> Invaluable contacts were made, contributing to the end re- <br /> sults for the opening of the Museum. Many improvements <br /> are planned, but a good beginning has been made. The Amer- <br /> ican Museum Association offers many workshops throughout <br /> the year which we are now eligible to attend (plus cost of <br /> travel expenses). A small operation such as we have requires <br /> a wide range of knowledge in order to function as an ap- <br /> proved museum. Expense monies are urgently needed for <br /> training personnel. <br /> We have definitely outgrown our facility and hopefully <br /> we can raise funds to enlarge our exhibit areas whether in- <br /> door or outdoor. Seed money is essential for matching funds <br /> with the federal and state government. The demand for <br /> outdoor exhibits is overwhelming, but presently we lack the <br /> land. <br /> On April 8, 1970, a grant of $22,700 was awarded by HUD <br /> to the Town of Mashpee to assist in restoration of the his- <br /> torically significant Avant House. The project included land <br /> acquisition, building restoration, and exterior improvements <br /> to the grounds for the adaptive community reuse of the <br /> property as an Indian museum.- <br /> The project is now complete, and a building of historic <br /> value to the Indian heritage of Cape Cod and the Wampa- <br />
