102
Report of the Highway Surveyor. . .
 I
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I hereby submit the annual report of the Highway Sur-
i
veyor, to the Honorable Board of Selectmen and Taxpayers.
Due to inflationary conditions we were forced to alter
some of.our major projects where materials exceeded esti-
mated cost.
The Department now consists of seven full-time men
and a full-time clerk. With one part-time man and,;two
trainees from Ceta. These men are assigned to maintain
ninety lane miles of town roads. They are also assigned to
special projects of maintenance for other departments when
requested by the Selectmen. They are also involved in road
construction in designated areas throughout the town.
The Town of Mashpee is growingso rapidly that our
streets, which .were constructed in the 30's, of sand'and'oil
mix with improper foundations are unable to carry heavy
equipment;and heavy traffic of the present. When these are cleared, we then °focus
our efforts to private:..streets-and developments. We wish to
I thank the Police Department-for_informing us promptly."of
all hazardous conditions while they are on patrol.
i I
Chapter 90 Improvement — In an effort .to save the
foundation that we have in Route 151 between the Mashpee
Rotary Circle and the Falmouth Town Line, we.applied. a
surface-of 1,540,feet,,by..twenty-six feet_wide 'arid one and
a'half"ilnches-thick-with-drainage."`At a"cbst of $4,500.00.
Under Chapter 90 Construction combined with Chapter
i 1140 Bond Issue we excavated and applied a foundation and
E
i
