REPORT OF THE MASHPEE WATERWAYS COMMITTEE
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
Primary concerns and responsibilities of the Mashpee Waterways Comm-
ittee in the past have been the enforcement of boating rules and regulations,
proper placement, maintenance and control of tidal and inland aids to navigation,
and the general safety and protection of our residents and their guests both on
the water and on the shore.
As new and convincing research becomes available regarding the rapid
deterioration of natural water resources by pollution, erosion, and other
man-made processes, this Committee, in addition to its acknowledged
responsibilities, has become involved in seeking out the ways and means by
which we may all help restore and save our great ponds, rivers and tidal
waters.
During 1975 this Committee has been strengthened by the addition of
new members - individuals with special interests and special areas of
expertise, and by establishment of sub-committees with assigned respon-
sibilities of setting priorities and formulating action programs to educate
ourselves and our Townpeople in the voluntary and mandatory steps which in
ust
be taken if we are to preserve our water resources for this and future gener-
ations.
As we look to 1976, this Committee is in a position to offer recommen-
dations and implement programs so that the ecological balance so necessary
to maintain "life" in our tidal and inland waters can be restored - while
{ there is still time. To do so, will require the concern and cooperation of
us all.
The Committee welcomes suggestions and recommendations from all
our citizens, and we would appreciate the assistance of any one interested
in helping further our objectives.
kWe wish to express our sympathy to the friends and family of Howard
Rohdin, who worked so long and with dedication for the Town of Mashpee
y and particularly for your Waterways Committee.
i
Respectfully submitted,
Ernest J.
