I
x•;
83
Scholastic Achievement
I think Mashpee can well be proud of the accom-
plishment of a number of Mashpee young people. In
1927 there was but one high school student. This stu-
dent attended Barnstable High School. There were no
students in institutions of higher learning. This year
the principal's report tells of the success of a number
of our young people at the college level, and we have a
large number of students at Falmouth, some of whom
are doing very fine work. Again may I point out that
success in high school depends primarily on the following
factors: native ability, attention in class, successful
accomplishment of home work, and regularity of atten-
dance. Children are fortunate whose parents see to it
that they attend school regularly and do the work
assigned.
I
Transportation '
Mashpee children attending high school are indeed
fortunate that they are able to ride in a fine bus over
good roads and with comfortable, uncrowded seating.
However, the furnishing of such transportation by the
town is dependent upon proper school bus conduct.
Since driving a school bus is a great responsibility, it is
mandatory that children behave in such manner as not
to require the attention of the driver. We expect young
People to behave well and urge the cooperation of pa-
rents in this matter, for we do not wish to go to extreme
measures to make certain that good order prevails in the
school bus.
School Building
Except for some necessary inside painting, the school
-building is in good condition. During the past year the
front steps were remade so that a dangerous faulty
condition was corrected. In order to give better entrance
