74
Plymouth. Dr. Policow has already held dental clinics at t
Mashpee and has been engaged for more. We believe it wise 1
for the Town of Mashpee to have as extensive a dental clinic t
program as possible since the community has no dentist and t
such service is only available at considerable distance, and c
many cannot afford private dental fees. r
At the last town meeting, a special appropriation was i
made for improving the parking area and to provide walks at t
the school. The work was put out to bid, and we were happy s
that it was possible for us to get a good parking area plus t
a fine walk from the front of the building to both rear en- t
trances. Perhaps at some future time, should the need arise,
it would be wise to provide additional parking space on the
opposite side of the building. 1
r
We greatly appreciate the co-operation of the Town High- 1
way Surveyor in sealcoating the driveway. This work insures
a good driveway and prevents it from cracking up. f
Elementary teachers are in great demand. The supply
does not begin to meet the demand. The problem is acute in t
communities that are at considerable distance from metro 1
e, it is even more difficult since ]
politan areas. For Mashpe
Mashpee is quite remote and there is no public transportation,
Two of our teachers resigned last summer to accept teaching
positions in Falmouth, and we were fortunate in being able
to secure trained replacements. Another factor that makes 1
it difficult to secure teachers for Mashpee is the amount of
salary we can pay. Mashpee is a small community. Its 1
school is small. Even though the salaries are relatively low,
the per capita teaching cost is high. Included in the budget
Ali i'p3 S
=1 is but a nominal increase of $100 per teacher. We hope that 1
this will retain our able teachers. 1
j `t.'
!j,a Citizens who have read the reports of the superintendent i
I`1 of schools during the past twenty-five years have noted on a
number of occasions comments in regard to the attendance
and accomplishment of Mashpee students at Falmouth High
School. Many times these remarks have expressed disap
oungsters
pointment and deep concern because Mashpee y
I III
'II
