98
During the year 1954 Mr. Carlton R. Thorne directed the
choral music program. It is with great regret that I announce
that he can no longer aid Mashpee with its music because of
lack of sufficient time. For the balance of this school year,
it will be necessary for each teacher to handle his or her
program until another supervisor may be secured.
During the summer the usual routine repairs were made.
All seemed to go reasonably well until December when the
stoker to the furnace gave out. It was found that it would
cost several hundred dollars to repair it, so for the balance
of the winter, the custodian will hand-fire the boiler. You
will note that you are asked at the coming Town Meeting to
consider changing over your heating system from coal to oil
r for another year. Your Acting Superintendent would recom-
mend this expenditure.even though the initial cost will prob-
ably mean an outlay of three to four thousand dollars. Over
a period of years I believe that it can be proven that these
costs will be saved by the use of fuel_ oil controlled by a
thermostat.
May I extend my thanks to the School Committee, the
faculty, and the townspeople for their fine help in the short
time that I have been with you.
Respectfully submitted,
WILFRED H. GRAVES
Acting Superintendent of Schools
i
