31
I
I
Report of the Beach and Park Commission
I
I
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and the Inhabitants of the Town of Mashpee
The report of the Beach and Park Commission is here-
by submitted:
We feel something constructive has been done to im-
prove the crowded conditions which existed at "Attaquin
Park" on Mashpee Lake, during the summer months.
A parking system similar to those of surrounding towns
was set up. 'Transient guests were charged fifty cents per
day. Year round residents were issued stickers free of charge
upon request. Contrary to belief, visitors were willing to pay
the small fee when told the money collected was to be used
by the Town to further improve picnic and bathing facili-
ties. However very little was realized financially this year as the
system did not go into effect until the middle of August.
Hurricane threats, flooding of the parking area and "polio"
I scares kept many away from the beaches. Properly admin-
istered this system will bring added revenue to the Town. It
is very important that the parking area be improved as soon
I as possible.
We wish to thank Mr. Robert Kendall of the Falmouth
Beach Committee who aided us in setting up our beach park-
ing program.
We were able to obtain ten picnic tables through the
help of the Superintendent of Schools Mr. James F. Peebles.
It is hoped that we may be able to build two "cook-outs", a
diving raft and improve the parking area in the near future.
