Chief Baker, Eire Department - Epres-sed concern
regarding traffic, response time, water pressure/flow, and
protecting the Town in the event of a fire.
James Megan, Zoning Board of Appeals - Expressed
concern that a DCPC would present a misuse of -B
projects . Mr. Nelson is in support of a 1--mile radius at
the rotary. Mr. Brea stated this ratter is not their area
of expertise and they should not become involved. Mr.
uerrera is apposed to a DCP _
The Chairman commented on the common theme of water
quality, wastewater, traffic, and affordable housing.
She suggested the Board make a decision regarding the
area of nomination and to agree on the districts that will
be included.
Dennis Balarini stated his rain concerns are ,rater,
wastewater, traffic, and affordable housing issues. He
feels these concerns extend beyond the Town of Mashpee and
should be considered regional concerns and addressed as
such .(with assistance from surrounding towns) .
Beverly Kane suggested the following for consideration
by the Board: "The Planning Beard nominates the entire
Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts as a District of Critical
Planning concern. Iashpee i - located in a part of Cape
Cod' s sole source aquifer designated as the ..Sagamore
Lens". This lens stretches 2 -miles from west to east and
1 -miles from north to south and has an elevation of more
than -feet above sea level at its highest point under the
camp Edwards Military Reservation. The Town of Mashpee
lies almost entirely within two major watersheds, which
drain from -north to south into two shallow, nitrogen
sensitive embayments, which are Popponesset Bay and waquoit
Bay. Much of the current effort at the federal and state
levels to protect water quality and to clean up pollution
is organized through a watershed approach focused on
geo raphic boundaries defined by drainage basins rather
than political or jurisdictional boundaries . We believe
that identifying the inter-related issues of water supply,
wastewater, traffic issues, housing andover-development b
watershed districts will allow a more direct focus on
developing solutions to these problems .
