{ {1
I
II"
Issue 2: Water Usage-Mr. McElhinney states Willowbend currently uses a water
supply well, with a permit from the DEP,to pump at a maximum of 470K gallons
a day. Additional 9 holes of golf would not require additional drawdown from
that well. This would be accomplished in two ways: 1)beneficial reuse of
treatment system that is cleaning up the plume from the Augat system, currently a i;'• ''r ,::
"pump and treat" system, treating it through a carbon system, currently running at
a rate of 80 to 1OOK gallons a day. A new system is going on line, probably next 77;r
spring, to capture the plume before it gets to Shoestring Bay, probably at 1 ooK
gallons per day. This would be the primary source of irrigation water. Mr.
McElhinney stated the biggest problem.with Willowbend original development is
that the golf course simply was not designed for any large scale storage of water
to irrigate, instead of pumping every day. The new 9 holes will have a storage
't•.ii
area, pp Y g g which will be supported b the Au at recharge,to hold sufficient water to {§ '
carry the golf course through 2 months of drought.
yIJI G.y y'y.
Planning Board Chairman John Kuch inski: The Au at recharge i s scheduled g g ed to
go 15-20 years; what happens after that?
i
Response from Mr. McEl h inn ey: Willowbend would operate their DEP permit,
which is only good for 10 years; Willowbend"will cross that bridge, when they
get to it". Mr. McElhinney feels the cleanup will go on much longer than
scheduled.
!l
Y;r
Planning Board, Dennis Balzarini: Is the discharge going back into the system?
Response from Mr. McElhinney: Yes, it will eventually.
Comment from Chairman, John Kuchinski: We're having another 80K gallons a
day of drawdown and using it for irrigation.
Mr. . cElhinney: It's not a perfect solution,but it's a good use of contaminated
water that would otherwise go into Shoestring Bay.
.k
r ;
n
Issue 3: en Space- r. McElhinne states that this plan will eliminate 10
p p . p • s
acres of impervious area; at the same time, it increases 15 more acres of virgin
open space than would exist if houses had been built. Willowbend has also had
preliminary discussions with the tribal council about dedicating additional open
y '
p ry g p ,
space for property owned on Meetinghouse Rd.
6
