The chairman recognized Mr. Bonie who stated that he
ha-s come to realize that perhaps if some of their
procedures were .amended, it would be beneficial to
Southport .
( s-sociate Member Harvey Cohen recused himself from
any discussion of this matter in order to avoid any
possible conflict ofin.terest, as he is a Southport
resident. )
He stated all of the appropriate trees would be saved
in the best interest to the community and to the
environment .
Reference was then made to a document provided by Mr.
onie, addressing the following:
Background - Provides the current guideline procedures
used for approval, removal, and preservation of trees. Mr.
Bon vie suggested there should be soma changes made to the
process .
Proposal - These are proposed changes to the tree
clearing process . Items A, B. and C being portions of the
process to remain without change.
Proposed Changes - The area in which trees are
selectively saved/removed be extended to be between 10 and
0-feet, rather than the current 10 and 0-feet from the
building foundation/deck. The current guideline does not
include the deck, which protrudes out an additional 12-
feet .
Mr. Bonvie would like approval for more flexibility as
it relates to the work line. Every -attempt would be made
to preserve specimen trees .
Myrna Nuey expres-sed her objection to the Applicant
and/or Town Planner being given this type of authority.
It was clarified that any request for tree removal,
after inspection, would come back to the Planning Board for
approval .
Dennis Balzarini asked who would make e t h e
determination regarding specimen trees .
10
