L `
Ed Baker, 1 a:shpee Res-ident - Requested clarifi.cation
of the infiltration issues, expressing concerns regarding
the proximity to the ponds. He noted that surface water
runs downhill, and talked about the possibility of
discharge and surface runoff both during a severe rain
event.
He also inquired as to whether or not any
consideration has been made for phosphorils treatment alone
with the nitrogen reduction treatment.
He stated .his confusion regarding t-he direction of the
groundwater flog calculations within the Zone II .
Karen Cowen, Mashpee Resident - stated she lives
directly behind Amos Pond and is speaking on behalf of
herself and her neighbors: "when the initial plan was
.presented for the building of the Stratford Ponds
community, it was built as a well planned community. There
were some variances granted for expansion to add more units
at a later date . The project had some advantages as it
would, we believed at the time, add- to the Town' s tax base
and support the Town-Is plans for growth. Ultimately
propelling what was once a small sleepy suburban town into
the bustling semi-urban mecca you- see today. Although
Stratford Ponds currently has 150 units of housing on it,
one could argue that it is a small community with little
impact on the en-rironment . But if we take into account the
tremendous growth this Town has taken on in the last few
decades then we can begin to understand the impact of this
request to reduce the amount of open space for residents of
the Town. Many projects in this area over the years have
changed the face of Ihpee such as relocating some
conservation lands, disregarding historical ]jogs to
accommodate golf courses, to name a few. In general, some
were showing a lack of respect. for the environment and the
natural pristine woods that once enticed us here over the
years. However, we are finding now that this well planned
and thought out community did not live up to it-s billing.
Since this is a request to relocate the site of its current
wastewater treatment facility to an area specifically
designated as. open space. With the ever present threats of
global warming, pollution increases, and in general an
overtaxing of our current ecosystems . 'This request only
further supports a -negat-ive environmental impact to the
families that abut the project. Reducing open space areas
in the lone term has a negative effect on the area. This
10
