rt '
. parcel that is being discussed was agreed by all at the
inception 6f the project to be protected as open space.
This was a major reason that its approval went through in
the first place, because it was billed as an
environmentally friendly project which would have minimal
impact on the surrounding ponds and natural waterways that
feed the ponds . For those of you who have not ventured
into this area let me familia-rize you with some
characteristics . When your enter the distinctive brick
gates to Stratford Ponds there are two well-manicured
structures atop its hill, a large rolling green expansive
lawn that leads to a quaint wooden sided bridge. There is
a pond to the loft and one to the right; they have. colorful,
lily pads and frogs. You also see 'no fishing' , 'no
trespassing' , and `no access' to the ponds' s ignage . This
is a reminder that this area is not to be tread upon,
disturbed, or abused in any way. I ask you then t
consider why we are here? If we have agreed to protect
this area, why are we now pushing. this critically fragile
environment by requesting yet another destructive act, a
cesspool, to be placed upon the land. This Town i
expanding at a rapid rate, there are more cars and people,
and loss and less land and open space ava.ilable. There are
currently several large housing developments in progress in
the same area such as the Ashers Pond proposal and the Town
of Barnstable proposed affordable housing project. All o
these projects will require wastewater treatment solutions
and all of then will impact the environment. The Stratford
Ponds request will destroy Amos and Coombs Pond. The
reduction of open space areas are constantly being
threatened and compromised. Let' s not compromise this open
space. I am requesting, on behalf of the consortium of
abutters, that you deny this request to convert this open
space into a Cesspool that will benefit a few but hinder u-s
and our families all for years to come. "
John O' Connor - stated he recognized the concerns for
open space areas and that he would life to fully cooperate
with the Town in this regard. He mentioned the benefits of
relocating a leaching field out of the Zone II .
The Chairman thanked everyone for their
commen-ts/concerns; stating the Planning Board would
consider all aspects. impacts of this proposal. she
reminded the Applicant that there are mare fact°s that have
not yet been provided and that the Board does not have a
basis to provide a consensus at this point.
11
