environment and visual character than currently allowed. The
Article defines the limits on building size, buffer zones, and
access from overcrowded roadways. The language of the Article is
taken from an earlier proposal from the Town ' s Planning office
and includes all the necessary references to completely adhere t
the current zoning By-law. Background and History - For many
years this area, which is surrounded by residential neighborhoods
and public schools, was properly zones residential. The zoning
was changed to commercial in 1994 to a conunodate what Town
Meeting was "hoodwinked-" .into believing would be a County
Courthouse. But there was no courthouse. Instead, landowner
i hard Terry, who is now on the Mashpee Planning Board wants to
put the Most intense (and profitable) commercial use imaginable
at this most inappropriate location. An effort by citizens t
return the zoning to residential fell just short at a previous
Town Meeting. . The Planning Board brought it's own proposal for- a
"Limited Commercial" District before Town Meeting --but it was
tabled and never came to a Grote when Mr. Terry claimed to be
unaware of it. Since then, we have faced unexplained resistance
from Town Hall in working to bring the issue back to Town
Meeting. First, our citizens' Petition Article was lost". Then
someone at Town Hall claimed part of the paperwork was "missing".
Please help make sure this important protection to our
residential neighborhoods wins Town Meeting approval. And please
let the Planning Board know you support the change by attending
the Public Hearing on Wednesday evening, Please Attend Planning
Board Hearing: September 18, 2002 7; p.m., mashpee Town Hall -
Preserve Mashpee, Mary Paasche, President . ,,
The Chairman then declared a fire -minute recess : o p.m.
Public Hearing
Anthony Laava - Cape & Islands Engineering
ushnet valley West
The appointed hour hair i ng arrived, 7:30 p.m., the Cha i rman
requested status of this matter.
