j,
'•.ill ib- ,
normal pay raises for officers, fire fighters, DPW employees and
teachers.
There being no further public input regarding the Police
Department aspect of Public Safety, the Chairman opened the ra..
Hearing to discussion concerning the Fire Department and at
recognized Fire Chief George Baker. ah
Chief Baker addressed the issue of response time. The three p;;n
road ways and
most important concerns are communications,
location of responders. He also brought up the subject of
adequate staffing for the future which should be accomplished in
a planned process. He also addressed the risk factor with regard
to the response times. (Chief Baker made reference to the mapped
area. ) North Mashpee is primarily residential risk. The coastal
area of Mashpee, South Mashpee, is a priority due to higher risk, Igogi!{,
longer response times. There is a great reliance on neighboring
Towns for communications. A Regional Dispatch Center (911) for
communications is important for the future.
He also mentioned technology (residential sprinklers, smoke
detectors, building construction changes, fire walls, building
materials and interior finishes) changes. He suggested long a; .
range planning should take advancing technology into
consideration.
Regarding convenient and adequate water sources, Chief Baker J1
suggested having a municipal water system for fire fighting 1 ;,1{ lt!
purposes become a priority for those areas within the Town thatill
are not connected to Town water.
The Town of Mashpee now has two trained hazardous materials
technicians. He foresees the time when his Department may be a
responsible for administering immunizations and tetanus shots.
He suggested wording to this effect be incorporated into policy
7 language. 'N
He supported policy 1-the availability of equipment and
resources located at Otis Air National Guard Base.
Because the scope of the Fire Department has changed, Chief „API
Baker is in support of site plan review. He feels this is a way
to address some of the issues up front and in a systematic `
manner, which would be very helpful. He also suggested planning
to set aside a portion of funding for technology changes for
equipment (e.g. breathing apparatus) .
The Chairman opened the Hearing to any public questions, II"''K
comments or input regarding the Fire Department aspect of the
vrs,i
Public Safety Element and recognized Juan Bacigalupa. ,..,,, .,,•t.
or
r,h
Mr. Bacigalupa recommended the addition of an objective
regarding medical emergencies and injuries for public education
..il ilfl.. r
