JJ JJ hil I
AOn''I
lip'
,r' ,,'rn; House became a Museum in 1973 . The Tribal Council and Board
21r ' of Selectmen have hired a design firm to inspect this facility.
Improvements are needed in these areas: New floor and roof; a
+,+i'°•, climate control system (to preserve artifacts) . Renovations have
been proposed in two phases. The first being renovations to the
building; and the second being an expansion to the building
which would provide display space for additional artifacts.
•,• ,. P P Y P
A M ,u
The Senior Center, built in 1973 was expanded in 1993 . A
sprinkler system, approved by Town Meeting, is going to be
installed. Some key needs are space for an adult social day care
program; integration and renovation of the Thrift Shop facility;
expansion of kitchen facilities which are used by the Cape and
{ ill",'01i Islands Elder Services, to provide meals for the elderly;
h ki increase of parking area.
The Town Cemetery is located on Meetinghouse Road. Some
Oti plots extend onto the D.P.W. parcel. Expansion of this facility
+ uv ", is proposed for additional grave sites. In order to preserve
tcw , this Cemetery for Native Americans, there is a proposal for
fall Town Meeting for an additional cemetery on the Mingo
N :" property located at the intersection of Great Neck Road South and
Great Hay Road, consisting of sixteen (16) acres. Some issues
for discussion upon approval would be how much land should be
cleared; the cost of clearing; price per plot; departmental
yy jurisdiction/operation and maintenance. An initial analysis of
the Summary Plan indicates a five (5) acres area should be
cleared. An analysis of the Town death rate indicate five acres
would be sufficient through the year 2004.
' ►'1uy The Action Plan Summary is for each department to conduct a
five-year space needs analysis. Continue to seek Federal and
a, L State grants. Participate and plan for regional facilities. At
R , N
one point a Courthouse was being discussed. The Cape Cod
Commission is researching the possibility of cellular towers.
Ilk
Improved coordination of the water District and other utilities
s ' 0 ' relating to Town projects.
In conclusion, Eric invited Board and public comments.
Helene DeFoe, Public Library, explained that when she
entered comments on the CIP last year, they were seeking to
double the size of the building. The building was initially
planned for ten thousand square feet, for economical reasons
the building size was reduced by half. Based upon review of the
new figures, a seventy-five hundred square foot addition is being
proposed. Helene said she used Tony Ferragamo' s 1982 study when
planning information for the CIP. The study suggested a desk be
kQ
► placed in the reference area, a certain level of seating,
acquiring certain equipment, e.g. microfiche readers. She
commented the building lacks space for people to come in, sit
down and work. The meeting room accomodates thirty-five people,
which limits community use of the building.
