(There being a number of restaurants and <br /> hotels in the area, local residents without culinary skills do <br /> not get the jobs. ) <br /> Recommended Five Year Plan: Short-term (first 6 months) . <br /> Develop Marketing and Business Outreach Subcommittees. Develop <br /> a Tourism Coordinating Council. Formation of an t, <br /> interdepartmental task force on aquaculture. The Planning <br /> Department should work with the Cape Cod Center for Environment <br /> and a Sustainable Economy to review its progress on the eco- <br /> resort. The Cape Cod Commission has recommended a definition of <br /> regional, village and industrial growth/activity centers as part <br /> of the land use element of the Plan. (Regulatory relaxation in r, <br /> terms of open space requirements, size of structures. ) An <br /> Education and Training Subcommittee. <br /> Recommended Five Year Plan: Next Steps (6-12 months) . <br /> Recommendations for committee accomplishments during the next , <br /> year or so. An Enterprise Development Subcommittee should be <br /> formed to begin work on designing a retail business development <br /> and assistance program, and work with the Tribal Council. <br /> Recommended Five Year Plan: Year 2-5 Activities. Develop <br /> information packages on eco-tourism; support the National <br /> Wildlife Refuge and development of a Refuge visitor center; and <br /> work on a new hotel. Continue work on the development of a r <br /> Community Development Corporation; Marketing Committee; II'' <br /> Aquaculture Task Force to identify appropriate sites for <br /> aquaculture. Develop an Entrepreneurial Mentor Program; Work <br /> with the Wampanoag Tribal Council on efforts to promote <br /> horticulture and hydroponic farming. <br /> Upon conclusion of the presentation, Mr. Fudala welcomed <br /> questions and comments from the public: <br /> ur <br /> Peg Harsch inquired as to "hydroponic farming. " Mr. Fudala <br /> explained it is growing things in a greenhouse in water. <br /> Beverly Kane commented that the majority of land in Mashpee , <br /> has very sensitive water shed areas. She commented on the price <br /> the Town has paid regarding environmental issues impacted by the <br /> Augat manufacturing plant. She feels consideration should be <br /> given to any development that would adversely affect water and <br /> air quality. She also questioned the issue of " . . .Mashpee <br /> residents seeking work out of Town. " She is not of the opinion <br /> that Mashpee needs to provide well-paying jobs in Town for t <br /> everyone.
