opportunities are only available to members of the <br />WHSTEP community and have proven invaluable as <br />students decide upon and pursue more advanced <br />studies through Summer Programs, Colleges, and <br />Universities. The MMHS Science Department is also <br />on the cutting edge in regard to the new state <br />frameworks and has worked diligently on <br />implementing more inquiry -based labs into the existing <br />curriculum. <br />Career and Technical Pathways <br />Career and Technical Education in five areas <br />including Art/Communications, Business, Hospitality, <br />Health, Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering <br />were approved by the School Committee. Students <br />were introduced to ProStart Curriculum in Hospitality <br />Pathway. <br />Curriculum in the 3D Animation and Drafting <br />Communication classes were enhanced by introducing <br />Unity 5 Pro game design software through grant <br />funding. MMHS also updated its software in animation <br />and drafting software by upgrading to Maya and <br />MudBox 2016. <br />MMHS sent ten female students to the Jr. Tech <br />Girls in STEM Summit at Regis College. <br />High School Students provided robotics <br />demonstrations and other STEM activities to the <br />Quashnet and KC Coombs students. Events included: <br />KCC and Quashnet STEM Nights, the Cape Light <br />Compact Energy Fair, and the Cape Cod Mini -Maker <br />Faire. <br />MMHS Students attended the Home Builder and <br />Remodelers Association of Cape Cod's Residential <br />Construction Career Day. <br />Students from the MMHS CTE Department were <br />featured presenters for the third straight year at the <br />MASSCUE Conference at Gillette Stadium. <br />MMHS Students in our ProStart Culinary <br />Program had a 100% passing rate on the Level 1 <br />National Exam and also entered Heritage Museum and <br />Gardens Gingerbread House Competition for the fourth <br />consecutive year. Students in this program also <br />provided luncheons for the Mashpee Chamber of <br />Commerce and Mashpee Men's Club. <br />The Health Occupation Students of America <br />(HOSA) Club hosted the American Heart Association <br />Fundraiser and created the MMHS LiveWell <br />Newsletter. Students from the club also competed at <br />the state level earning first place honors in Health <br />Career Display and Health Education as well as a <br />second place finish for their Health Public Service <br />Announcement video. <br />Our Band and Chorus Students had another stellar <br />year! 2015-2016 highlights include the following: 1) <br />8 students were accepted into regional music festivals <br />including All -Cape, All -Cape Jazz, Southeastern <br />District, and the prestigious All -State Chorus. 2) 13 <br />middle school students participated in regional <br />choruses. 3) The MMHS Chamber Choir and acapella <br />group attended the Great East Festival competition in <br />the spring, and both groups earned gold medals for <br />their performances. 4) The MMHS Band and Chorus <br />performed several concerts for parents and community <br />members and also performed at the Memorial Day <br />ceremony and at the Royal Nursing Home for seniors. <br />5) MMHS students hosted the First Annual Art/Music <br />Showcase and Coffehouse Night which highlighted <br />student talents in music and artwork. <br />Our MMHS Art students entered several art <br />shows and multiple students earned recognition for <br />their pieces. MMHS artwork was entered and <br />displayed in the following locations: Mashpee <br />Superintendent's Art Show, "Through Young Eyes" art <br />show at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, "Beginnings" <br />art show at the Cape Cod Art Association, "Teacher as <br />Artist" exhibit at the Cape Cod Museum for Art Winter <br />Exhibition, Cape Cod Life Magazine, Project Hope, <br />and the senior art show at the Cousins Bookstore in <br />Mashpee Commons. <br />The MMHS CTE Department also made several <br />community connections working with the Mashpee <br />Chamber of Commerce, the Mass Restaurant <br />Association, Trevi Wine Bar, Cape Cod Makers, Cape <br />Code Shipbuilding, the Barnstable Bat Company, <br />Heritage Museum and Gardens, Factory Five Auto <br />Racing, and Hydroid. <br />MMHS is proud to build community partnerships <br />to provide students with real world experiences through <br />guest speakers and internship opportunities through our <br />School to Career Program. <br />144 <br />
