M
16 Great .Neck Road North
.Mashpee, .Massachusetts 02649
- Natural Resources
- Land use and Growth Management
- Heritage and Preservation
- Open Space and recreation
- Municipal buildings, facilities, and services
- Transportation and circulation
Existing Conditions Approach
- Review
- Reuse and reorganize
- Update based on existing data
Policy and Actions Approach
- Gather public feedback through public engagement tools
- Gather staff, Board, and Commission feedback through interview and meetings
- Review existing policies.and actions through the lens of feedback and information collected
- Move forward relevant publicly supported policies and actions
- Formulate new policies and actions based on feedback and information collected
Exampled Layouts provided of Scituate, MA, and Beverly, MA
- Just over 100 pages, opposed to traditional 400
- Symbology to carry themes
- Text pages not overly burdened, interspersed with maps, and highlighted with pictures to support text
- Format that identified Land Use chapter area targeted for growth, issues around that area,
transitioned to goals policies and action for that area
Ms. Sweet commented that it could be organized with issues then actions or contain Existing
Conditions in the appendix with chapters that give a brief overview then send someone to the appendix
and jump into actions. It's truly the preference of the Planning Board to organize.
Survey Approach
- Review 2011 survey questions
- Use survey standards and best practices to adjust 2011 questions
- Update 2011 questions to reflect current conditions
- Organize questions by topic
Ms. Sweet noted Mr. Lehrer was able to vet questions that are no longer relevant. Do they want one big
survey or separate smaller topical surveys that just answer questions pertaining to Housing or
Economic Development. A long survey organized by topic allows you to save your place and go back.
People don't want to be overburdened by asking them to spend 35 minutes, but because it can be
saved and continued at a later time allows the user to be flexible.
