16 Great Neck R.oadNorth
.Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Ms. Waygan followed up asking about the recommendation of policies. She asked if Mr. Lehrer has
given thought to those being included as well.
Mr. Lehrer stated that is entirely up to the Board. The existing conditions really lays the framework for
analysis of the existing condition in consideration of goals and vision, we defined as actionable steps to
achieve that goal. He thinks yes, in some variation.
Ms. Waygan thinks the analysis section was really good and that it should stay. Recommendation
policies could probably be skipped and go right to action steps. The inventory section and analysis
should stay and be updated.
Mr. Lehrer stated as we update the document the format for the update is critical as well as
implementation. It is inconsistent across chapters. They need to define who is responsible for actions.
Ms. Waygan asked the other Board members if it was a sound idea to keep the inventory and analysis
sections for this chapter.
Mr. Richardson stated it is a good idea to have something to reference and see what has been done or
what the inventory was in comparison to now. Both he and Mr. Balzarini agreed to keep the sections.
Mr. Lehrer commented the amount of resources and data available for coastal resources is extensive
more so than other elements. It clearly identifies the priorities the town has been making over the years.
The Chair called for Public Comment and recognized Lynne Barbee.
Lynne Barbee- She saw a lot on Saturday at the LCP workshop, one thing missing from the actions
that is dear to her heart, a really comprehensive public education campaign. The water is not great but
many don't really know what it is we are doing to contribute to that. There are a lot of good policies but
people also need to know their roles in all of this. A couple years ago when she first heard about
fertilizer her neighbors would say they don't live near the water. People have limited comprehension of
our own contributions. For example, overturning the plastic ban, understanding the level of micro
plastics in our water. Included in the action should be a program for public education. On p.65 it notes a
public information program for year four. We should be getting high school students involved. There are
a lot of ways to get everyone involved, we need more public education, posters, Mashpee TV, seminars
etc.
Mr. Balzarini noted a pamphlet that went out some years back about what happens when you flush
your toilet and where the water goes into the ground. He recalled them being handed out to the school
and it was a good booklet.
M
