16 Great Neck R.oadNorth
.Mashpee, 9vlassachusetts 02649
is full of information and it is the history chapter. She was reading the RPP goals from 2018 RPP made
by CCC, they completely missed aboriginal rights when setting up their goals. When they talk about
cultural heritage they are really talking about brick and mortar buildings or places and forgot people.
Maybe it is someplace else, we will need to go above and beyond in this chapter. It might be nice to
share with Weston & Sampson the shellfish regulations.
Mr. Balzarini got the feeling at Saturday's meeting that open space was going against housing. We
have to keep open space but where are we going to put the housing? We can divide land and keep it
recreational but also carve out certain pieces to make affordable housing.
Mr. Lehrer noted that not every site in town is suitable for high density development. There are some,
they are limited, especially in consideration of future wastewater opportunities. We need to balance
what is available and unprotected with our priorities for providing housing for the community. We at
least have some focus on how you can assess the potential for new housing or redevelopment for
housing less the remainder of unprotected property and define that in the Open Space Acquisition Plan
and that lays it out. The APCC laid it out clearly to help us focus on what priorities could be. It certainly
is a balance.
Ms. Waygan agreed, it will come down to how we balance these two priority needs.
Mr. Richardson said if you keep this conversation going in tandem with one another then it works. You
can't ignore one or the other, most people will understand and accept that.
Ms. Faulkner stated the town has not decided what the goals in the updated LCP are or will be, but
some paperwork received from Weston & Sampson lists the goals and tells us what the goals are
according to the CCC RPP. She does not think that is appropriate. At this point we are asking for input
from the public that will help to identify what the best goals are unique to Mashpee's character and
cultural heritage.
MOTION:
Ms. Faulkner made a motion to make a statement at this time the Planning Board acknowledges
it has not adopted the goals of the Cape Cod Commission RPP nor has the Planning Board
approved any goals in the Mashpee LCP update, and we are still taking input. Seconded by Mr.
Balzarini.
Roll Call:
Mr. Richardson — No, Mr. Fulone — No, Ms. Waygan — Yes, Ms. Faulkner — Yes, Mr. Balzarini —
Yes
(3-2)
Mr. Balzarini felt like when he read that we should wait until we get out plan and hope the CCC accepts
it.
Ms. Waygan stated that this notion is to publicly acknowledge that we are still taking input.
14
