Also, any additional questions that the community would find
necessary.
Ms. Waygan reiterated they will wait until after the third workshop to launch the survey. Is purpose of
the survey to help develop goals or prioritize strategies?
Mr. Lehrer commented the results will supplement findings from the engagement opportunities and get
at specific goals, policies, and actions, as a way to get public opinion of a broader range of people who
may not have been at the workshop.
Ms. Waygan has used surveys to prioritize the concerns of the community.
Mr. Lehrer noted they will get at levels of priority and utilizing previously issued surveys as a skeleton,
as you will see consistency with prior issued surveys and questions being contrary to survey best
practice. We have solutions to get at the intent of the question without being contrary to best practice.
Ms. Waygan asked how you would garner supplemental information. Would you have an "other" box?
You could use the survey to try and set goals and prioritize actions.
Mr. Fulone stated we are using the survey to get opinions, feedback, and comments from the 15,000
people that do not show at the session.
Mr. Lehrer is happy to get into the survey deeper with questions when it is actually in front of him.
Ms. Waygan wants to do a huge push out of those comment boxes from the takeaway sheets from the
workshops. Surveys are simpler.
Ms. Faulkner doesn't think people will start writing and don't want to seem foolish. If they are given
boxes they are more apt to say what they like and do not like.
Ms. Sweet wants to be able to design the survey in such a way as to not lose the attention and focus of
the audience. People have a set amount of time to dedicate so we don't want to go longer or
complicate questions. A relatively short question will be asked with a range of choices to choose from.
Instead of ranking most to least, that pits things against one another like open space and housing.
