16 Great Neck RoadWorth
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Ms. Waygan agreed they are getting a better response when they go to people.
Ms. Faulkner would not want to go there for just one group. She inquired what other groups would
attend.
Ms. Barbee stated there are other groups that meet there, she could get a list of all those groups, we
would do an afternoon and invite people, there are classes in the morning but she thinks the ice-cream
social was a great idea. She would talk to Heidi to see when a good time that would bring in a lot of
people was. It is quiet in the afternoon but busy in the morning. She is unsure who is there now but she
knows of a men's group and a mahjong group. It is easy to post information there as people pass in
and out. Other things to note, when talking about crosswalks, if you put in a rotary right out there you
have to put in a crosswalk. In 1998 there wasn't a Dunkin Donuts there or the brewery it was still the
lake, and she keeps seeing people scurrying across the road to get to their parking. The rotary needs a
crosswalk. The survey, are we shy about using the word Wampanoag? Why are we just using the
words Native American and talking about history and culture and not talking specifically about our
Tribe? There are a lot of different Native Americans but the Wampanoag specifically live here. Factors
that impact quality of life, one thing is Native American history. Talk about what is current. One other
place it mentions something about Native American culture, she thinks that how we say it is important,
but we should be using the word Wampanoag. She will do some research at the Senior Center.
Ms. Faulkner asked which facility holds more people.
Ms. Barbee stated the Senior Center has larger rooms, where the ice-cream social was held is large
but there are smaller rooms in the back. There is also a big room where they serve lunch.
Ms. Faulkner suggested they show up for lunch if that will target the most traffic.
Ms. Barbee stated currently they only have 2-3 people coming for lunch.
Mr. Lehrer asked what they serve for lunch, maybe they can provide a nicer meal that is worth a visit.
Maybe there can be a pizza party.
Ms. Waygan acknowledged that this is an incredible amount of work. She thanked Mr. Lehrer, Ms.
Sweet, and Mr. Beltran for their efforts. They are all doing such a great job and doing the outreach. She
is looking forward to seeing the matrix of all the comments.
Ms. Barbee stated she thinks a lot of groups haven't come back for their activities since COVID. She
had one more comment under sustainability. The beach, parking lot, and dunes. When she first moved
here the dunes weren't here. The dunes allow us to keep that parking lot. The beach is narrower
because of the dunes, if they were not there the lot would be wiped.
14
