16 Great Neck Road North
.Mashpee, .Massachusetts 02649
could haul the trash and not have to pay for all of it. Everything they looked at they hit road
blocks in every area. When they looked at the fees associated with throwing away a TV, it's a
disposable society, you see it all over the Cape. Our DPW ends up picking up the stuff
anyway. Why not have vouchers and advertise a pick up. You aren't catching them by fines,
you can say you'll take a beach sticker away for a year, most people throwing stuff out the
truck don't care about a beach sticker. If you make it easier for someone to get rid of
something, even sending a truck around on a specific day to neighborhoods some will take
advantage. People are hard pressed and when others ask for help someone will usually be
there to help. If you see someone worse off you give a little bit. The voucher program or a pick
up or something, somebody might say they would donate money towards vouchers and have it
go to someone who doesn't have the $50 for a mattress or moving. They looked at it a couple
years ago and moved onto other projects because this presented many road blocks. GPS from
conservation enables geotags with the GPS. All that stuff is there to identify it and they even
took photos. There is so much in the back woods you don't see, but the stuff up front becomes
noticeable and ugly. If they put it and pay at the dump they would have to pay for it. It became
the deterrent. The harder they worked the more they would have to pay.
Ms. Waygan would like to make that an action item, some kind of stipend or voucher program
for free disposal, especially for a group willing to go in and pick it up out of the woods.
Mr. Binette stated there are some beautiful trails that go all the way through Mashpee into
Falmouth and Sandwich. It is amazing the trails we have, but nothing is worse than coming
around the corner and seeing a dishwasher, microwave, or big screen TV. We can't control
the people but we could give it a path to make it easier or more accessible for people to get rid
of their junk. They will always look for the easy way out and that's a drive into the woods at
10p.m. By bringing awareness someone may pick up the phone and call and say they have
stuff to dispose of.
Ms. Faulkner asked what he thought about having a pick up place for appliances to be brought
to one place.
Mr. Binette does not have any answers but wanted to bring forth some of his ideas.
Mr. Richardson is glad Mr. Binette spoke up, this has been talked about for years. The DPW
will take stuff from dumping and wont charge if they are notified. There are many people
around town who are willing to volunteer their help.
E3
