PLANNING BOARD
'own of M ashp ee
PLANNING BOARD M INUT ES' 5.4a S 3 oont'd. Page 4
Ae
,awrra •,.—gym......
It was brought up by the audience that all it would take is one abuttor to be
against it and the variance would 'ae denied.
John Umina asked if the 300' corridor on the Quashnet River would include north -of
Route i5l, Brian Barber said originally it was going to include north of Route 151
but it had been amended to jus-1 include south of Route 151.
Earle Marsters said the intent of the 300' setback is axce-Ilent but thinvs it' s
unfair and tah-ing over people- s land and the urn-sophisticated land owner couldn't
protect himself. He also felt it was unclear how you measure the 300' . will Hanson
also questioned how it'-s measured -- if you just add 200' to the present log?'. zoning
ox is 'it a new concept-. Someone .asked if they could leave it to the architectural
review committee to determine but Brian Barber said they wouldn't deal with R-5 zone.
Richard Terry stated they're trying to get people to Zook at the long view. Not
everything'-s loofa p-erfect but he thinks it's what .the people want and he's trying
to get a .program that's fair to everyone. Brian Barber said it's an attempt to
balance off the increase in density of the center.
Earle Marsters felt the Board should try to resolve this and he wanted to get a feed.
of the people before he voted as a Planning Board member. Richard Terry said we've
never had a show of hands before at a public hearings you just let the people get up
and give their opinion -and the people have i.nd i.cated what their feelings are. Michele
didn't think .it was inappropriate to get a consensus of the people and that's ghat
a public hearing is for.
Will Manson wanted to :now how the 300' had come into the picture and if any research
had been done on it,
Richard Terry made a motion that. the Board take a vote. He went on record as being
in favor of the plan. -as ka arzd if they- want to make some changes Monday night, alright
It needs a 2/3 majority vote
Earle Marsters went o-n -record as saying the 300' s e tba* needs more study as no one
can define it or determine where the edge is.
Michele Stone went on record as saying she' s generally in favor of the whole plan but
she does have a concern about the 300' . She's in favor of doing protective zoning
on the rivers but she' s not set in concrete that it has to be 300' . She d.idn't
f eel an individual can guarantee that: there will be a variance granted by the
Appeals Board. She likes the idea but she can see how it wi ll affect sortie people
and she asked if 200' instead would make a di f f erence.
