The plan also includes over $820 <br />million for roadways, bridges, sidewalks, and path in <br />the region and over $280 million in transit funding. <br />www.capecodcommission.org/rtp. <br />6th Annual OneCape Summit <br />More than 300 people, including local, state, and <br />national leaders attended the 6th Annual OneCape <br />Summit, held at the Wequassett Resort in Harwich. <br />Over the course of the two-day event, the <br />Commission's mission to balance environmental <br />protection with economic progress was reflected in <br />plenary sessions, focused discussions, and hands-on <br />learning experiences designed around region -wide <br />efforts to enhance and protect our natural, built, and <br />community systems. Experts and Commission staff led <br />sessions focused on coastal resiliency, climate change, <br />water quality, and housing. <br />Former Orleans selectman Alan McClennen was <br />honored as this year's OneCape award recipient for his <br />efforts to improve water quality and work toward <br />wastewater solutions both in the Town of Orleans and <br />across Cape Cod. <br />onecape.capecodcommission.org <br />Cape Cod Climate Initiative <br />Cape Cod faces unique challenges due to its <br />geography and geology, historic connection to the sea, <br />and the number of residences, businesses and critical <br />infrastructure located in its most vulnerable areas. <br />The extent of threats facing the Cape Cod region <br />requires coordinated action and broad community <br />efforts. <br />The Cape Cod Commission held a series of <br />facilitated sub -regional community meetings in <br />October 2019 to solicit input on planning priorities, <br />concerns, and barriers to moving climate adaptation <br />and mitigation actions forward throughout the region. <br />Mashpee Library hosted one of four sub -regional <br />community meetings introducing the initiative. <br />www.capecodcommission.org/our-work/climate-change <br />Municipal Vulnerability Planning <br />The Cape Cod Commission, Woods Hole Sea <br />Grant, and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension became <br />certified MVP providers and are assisting the towns of <br />Barnstable, Bourne, Eastham, Wellfleet and Truro in <br />completing assessment and resiliency plans. These are <br />community -led processes that employ local knowledge <br />and support through a team of town officials and <br />stakeholder participation in day -long workshops. <br />Communities that complete the MVP program <br />become certified and are eligible for MVP Action grant <br />funding, among other opportunities. <br />Resilient Cape Cod <br />The Cape Cod Commission and partner agencies <br />launched a new online tool to help decision makers <br />investigate environmental and socio-economic effects <br />of regional coastal resiliency strategies. <br />The Cape Cod Coastal Planner is the culmination <br />of the three-year Resilient Cape Cod Project, funded <br />through a 2016 National Oceanic and Atmospheric <br />Administration Regional Coastal Resilience grant. <br />The Coastal Planner is designed to help towns <br />communicate the effects of sea level rise, erosion, and <br />storm surge, and the potential impacts of adaptation <br />strategies. The tool identifies adaptation <br />strategies available for specific coastline segments <br />selected by the user, based on land and water -based <br />characteristics of those segments. <br />www.capecodcoast.org <br />CEDS 5-Year Plan Approved <br />Working with the Barnstable County Economic <br />Development Council stakeholders throughout the <br />region, Commission staff developed and submitted the <br />five-year Comprehensive Economic Development <br />Strategy (CEDS). <br />The CEDS is a tactical economic development <br />plan consistent with the growth policy and goals of the <br />Regional Policy Plan.
