MINUTES September 16 , 1993 S BOARD OF HEALTH
to a laboratory, when the results come back they will have
that level of quality control that they need to legally make
some decisions. "
Questions were raised by Briarwood residents as to what
would happen if the results indicate the water is con-
taminated but the homeowner, knowing the risks, chooses not
to tie in.
Mr. Greelish stated, "If a moratorium were declared for
water usage this Board has the legal right to take the neces-
sary action. "
Questions were raised as to whether the ponds would be
closed.
Mr. Doherty responded, "That is not the issue this
evening. " "We are here this evening to discuss the private
potable water drinking wells in the Briarwood area. " "The
discussion tonight will be limited to that. " "I will not al-
low the issues to be confused or be clouded because nothing
will be accomplished. "
Mr. Begley commented, "The area we are concerned about
is the area that is north of the fork in the road of Hooppole
Road and Highland Road if you are south of that you need not
be concerned about the contamination. "
A Briarwood homeowner questioned the Board as to whether
all the wells will be shutdown.
Mr. Doherty relayed, "As the Board is considering it
now, if we were to ban the wells in the affected area all the
private wells will be banned. " "We will base that decision
on the information gained tonight. " "We have not made a de-
cision. "
Mr. Orlando commented, "Some people have town water and
also maintain their private wells. " "Is the Board stating
all wells even those being used for irrigation purposes will
be banned. "
Mr. Doherty responded, "Yes. "
Mr. Begley commented, "When the results are available we
could consider, if there is a problem for watering, outside
use. " "The volatiles coming off of a shower or enclosed
space is a very different situation. "
Mr. Greelish relayed, "With the information we received
from the State Health Department and D.E.P. we're advised
there is a significant health risk for even watering lawns
