MINUTES August 24, 2000 6 BOARD OF HEALTH
walked in through the back door and found so many violations that I didn't
even fill out a report. The place was absolutely disgusting and filthy. There
was tomato sauce all over the walls, grease all over the floors, the mats hadn't
been cleaned, the food wasn't covered in any of the refrigerators. Then I
proceeded to go around the corner and all I could smell from the dining room to
the kitchen was garbage. I went upstairs to the bathrooms, now this was about
11:15 in the morning, the bathrooms had not been cleaned from the previous
night, they were filthy. I went into a backroom upstairs where they cut pizza
and found cornmeal all over the floors, the place was an absolute mess. It was
so bad to the point where my feet were sticking to the mats; it was just filthy,
rotten, dirty." "I told the owners brother that the violations were too numerous
and that I would be back on Friday." "After speaking with Elias we decided that
we should bring it to your attention to review and, perhaps, get some comments
on this. But, I told him I would be back tomorrow morning." "There have been
at least six inspections since last December, to no avail. None of the violations
have been corrected. They don't care." "John Renz of Mashpee Commons stated
that Gone Tomatoes has filed for bankruptcy, however he doesn't know what is
going on because they have until December 31at to get out. I've been told this
before as well."
Mr. McQuaid stated, "If you go way back in your package to December of last
year. Charlotte Steiffel of Barnstable County did an inspection to help us out
and felt very uncomfortable with the cleanliness of the situation so I went out a
couple of days later and found numerous, numerous violations. I went back
out January 24th and most of violations had been corrected, but it took a lot of
persuasion to get them to realize that he can't just continue operating the way
he's operating. The place is a mess." "Ronnie and I will both go out tomorrow
and if there are any critical violations, we are going to shut them down unless
you persuade us otherwise. It's going to take that..."
Mr. Santos motioned to authorize the Health Agent and Assistant Health Agent
to shut down Gone Tomatoes if they find any critical violations at the time of
their inspection on Friday, August 25, 2000. Mr. Ball seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
OLD BUSINESS
a. Half Tide Marina proposed septic upgrade
This item has been put on hold until the Health Agent has heard back from the
engineer.
b. A ent's comments to ZBA on Canal Auto Body Repair Sho (if available
Mr. McQuaid stated that his comments on this project would be available at the
Board's next meeting.
Mr. Santos reiterated his concerns regarding the hazardous materials, and the
impact to public health and safety.
