11
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 21, 2002
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Department of Public Works: (continued)
DPW_ Transportation Bond Bill:
Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works discussed the issue of providing
signalization of the Route 28 intersection at Asher's path and Orchard
Road. He urged the Selectmen to send a strong letter of support to
legislative and highway officials.
Motion made by Selectman Leveille to remit letters of support for the
FY03 Transportation Bond Bill to applicable MA Highway and
Legislative officials as recommended.
Motion seconded by Selectman Green.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Cape Light Compact:
Correspondence was received from The Cape Light Compact dated
October 7,2002 with regards to participation in the Compact's Traffic
Signal Retrofit project. A summary of the field survey was sent to the
DPW Director for review and verification.
Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works corresponded to the Selectmen on
the Cape Light Compact initiative project in a memorandum addressed to
the Board dated October 16, 2002.
Mr. Taylor indicated that the Town has changed all traffic lights to light
emitting diode (LED)traffic signals. He recommended against the change
of the Fire/Police flashing signal since signalization is forthcoming. With
regards to the school flashing lights, they are on only four hours per day
for 180 days. It would not be cost effective to change these lights.
Motion made by Selectman Leveille to remit a letter of appreciation to
The Cape Light Compact for the initiative, but defer from
participation, and to further review the previous contract with The
Cape Light Compact to review the cost effectiveness of the program.
Motion seconded by Selectman Green.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Mr. Taylor was requested to update the Board on the cost of street lights.
