Board of Selectmen Minutes <br /> March 12,2001 <br /> Page Six. <br /> Mashpee Commons—Liquor License Cap(continued <br /> Mr. Renz introduced Attorney Michael Ford,representing Mashpee Commons, Attorney <br /> Ford handed out a draft article for issuance of additional licenses in the Town of <br /> Mashpee. He was surprised there was a cap in Mashpee. He drafted an article for <br /> consideration to be inserted in the Town Meeting warrant in the form of enabling <br /> legislation to authorize and instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition the legislature for <br /> special legislation to issue additional licenses as they see fit. He put two strings on the <br /> legislation and explained. The cap would be taken off provided it was for a hotel or <br /> restaurant but not for a tavern. If the article passes by Town Meeting vote it does need to <br /> be approved by the State legislature. He informed them that he sent a copy to Mr. Bowen <br /> at Kopelnian&Paige. <br /> Discussion followed regarding clubs in Town. They wrili not be provided for by this <br /> article but the article can be expanded to provide for them if necessary. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to put the article in the Town Meeting <br /> warrant. <br /> Selectman Green asked to put on hold at this time and move forward for research and <br /> place it back on the agenda at a future meeting for action. <br /> Americorps Program and Goals: <br /> Correspondence received from Amy Whittingham, AmeriCorps-Cape Cod requesting a <br /> 5-10 minute presentation during the Selectmen's meeting. She stated that AmeriCorps is <br /> a non-profit environmental organization created to serve Barnstable County in the areas <br /> of land conservation,water consen�ation and environmental conservation. The brief <br /> presentation will offer background information on their program and goals,as well as <br /> highlight specific services that have been provided in the Town of Mashpee and will <br /> enable the town and individual departments to utilize the full potential of their services in <br /> the future. <br /> Rick York, Shellfish Department,introduced Amy Whittingham,a Shellfish Biologist <br /> from.AmeriCorps-Cape Cod who gave an informative presentation on their program. <br /> Policy on Signs: <br /> Also, correspondence received from AmeriCorps dated February 5, 2001 requesting to <br /> erect a sign on the Mashpee rotary advertising Barnstable County's AmeriCorps'Earth <br /> Celebration. <br /> The Selectmen delegated the Town Administrator and Assistant Town Administrator to <br /> handle the policy for all signs unless there is a variance then it will come to the BOS. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor to place the above topic on the Selectman's <br /> agenda. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Green. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0 <br /> P <br />
