6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 23, 2001
NEW BUSINESS:
Request for One-Day Liquor License:
Kevin Shackett was present to request the Board approve a one-day liquor
license, beer and wine only, for the swearing-in ceremony for Doris
Dottridge on May 6, 2001 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Southport facility
in Mashpee.
Motion made by Selectman Marsters to approve the One-Day Liquor
License request as stipulated.
Motion seconded by Selectman Green.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Colonel Hutto Base Update:
Cape Cod Air Force Station Commander Lt. Col. James Hutto was present
to update the Selectmen on PAVE PAWS. As noted, the Upper Cape
provides an optimal location for missile warning and space surveillance
over eastern North America.
The phased array radar incorporates active antenna elements and is
coordinated by two computers. The computers feed directions to the
antenna units in precise, controlled patterns, allowing the radar to detect
and track many objects nearly simultaneously. The computers are
outdated an in need of replacement.
Ongoing committees analyze data relative to public health concerns. The
meetings are open to the public as is radio frequency energy literature.
