2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> August 20, 2001 <br /> r <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Mashpee Women's Club: <br /> On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, Selectman Marsters presented the <br /> Mashpee Women's Club a check in the amount of$5,024.37 earmarked <br /> for the Old School House. Funds for building improvements were <br /> obtained from a previous and older donation account. It was noted that the <br /> Women's Club in conjunction with the Mashpee Historic Commission <br /> have worked together to enhance and maintain the culture of the Town of <br /> Mashpee. <br /> Melanson&Heath— Status Report: <br /> Frank Byron of Melanson&Heath, Certified Public Accountants updated <br /> the Selectmen on audit activities related to the Treasurer/Tax Collector's <br /> Office and associated year-end auditing services. <br /> Initial recommendations for the referenced audit include additional office <br /> cross-training to support the Treasurer and Tax Collector, and to improve <br /> general automation by using updated financial software applications. <br /> The payment method associated to property taxes and the foreclosure <br /> process was also reviewed and recommended for improvement. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to the purchase of updated software to <br /> integrate with applicable financial and administrative departments. The <br /> issue will be further reviewed with the Network Administrator. Financial <br /> projections and computer needs will be considered for the October Town <br /> Meeting warrant. The matter will be placed on the upcoming Selectmen's <br /> agenda for further review and discussion. <br /> Melanson &Heath have offered to extend its services to assist with <br /> documenting policies and procedures and to provide additional office <br /> training and support for improvement issues associated to the Office of the <br /> Treasurer/Tax Collector. It was noted that an article appears on the Town <br /> Meeting warrant at this time for extended audit related services and <br /> activities. <br />
