' S <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 28, 2000 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Affirmative Action Committee—No Place for Hate Designation: <br /> Several members of the Affirmative Action Committee were present to <br /> recommend the Board proclaim Mashpee as a"No Place for Hate" <br /> community. <br /> Marilyn Warren, Jan Strickland and Peter Dinizio were present to request <br /> the Town maintain a policy of zero tolerance for hate crimes. A serious <br /> year round program is considered to mobilize key leadership segments in <br /> the community to creatively address any issue that will help promote a <br /> recognition and encouragement of diversity. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Leveille to endorse the <br /> Affirmative Action Committee Chairman's memorandum of <br /> February 22, 2000, and proclaim the Town of Mashpee as a <br /> "No Place for Hate" community. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Morgan Peers--Mashpee Art House. <br /> Morgan Peters presented information to the Selectmen relative to the <br /> proposal of the Oversoul Theatre Cooperative to reconstruct the former <br /> USO building/Town Hall in Heritage Park for use as the "Mashpee Art <br /> House". <br /> Discussion followed with respect to increased traffic and parking <br /> concerns. It was noted that the proposal might conflict with Little League, <br /> soccer, and football requirements since night lighting has been installed. <br /> The Board agreed to form a subcommittee comprised of Selectmen <br /> members, Leveille and Blythe in conjunction with the Town Planner and <br /> Mr. Peters to consider additional sites for the intended location of the <br /> "Mashpee Arts House". A recommendation will be presented to the full <br /> Board of Selectmen for consideration within a two-week period. <br />
