Fiance Committee
March 21, 1991
Page 5.
Jim noted that the final assessment has been received from Veteran's
Services and $300 needs to be added. Tony motioned that the $300 be added to
Veteran's Services, and Deirdre seconded. The was unanimous agreement.
The members noted the budgets that they would like to reconsider:
Assessors
Town Planner
Planning Board
Leisure Service
Sewer
Collector/Treasurer
Conservation
-Police
Fire
Harbormaster
Shellfish
Library
DPW
School.
Jim noted that he had spoken with Tony Ferragamo of the Planning Board.
Tony agreed to a $4,000 reduction however he requested that if a project
should come in that requires additional money that a Request for Transfer
be looked upon favorably. Carl motioned that the Committee agree to reduce
. the Planning Board budget $4,000. This was seconded by Tony and all members
agreed.
John stated that the Assessors is a critical office and he was inclined
to give him something so he could get the bills out on time. Jim agreed with
John. John motioned that $5,400 be added to the Assessor's salary account
which would allow him to keep one part-time person. He noted that this was
done in the hopes that the bills would get out on time, and save on interest
costs. Carl seconded the motion. The Finance Committee unanimously agreed with
the motion.
Deirdre expressed concern about reducing the secretary in the Town Planner's
office to 20 hours. Deirdre motioned instead that the position be 35 hours per
week.. John seconded the motion. Deirdre stated that she was concerned about
the value of the secretary's longevity and if you lose the person you are going
to lose a lot of knowledge and experience. The cost of this motion would be
$9,812. This motion failed to carry with only two votes in favor by John and
Deirdre and three opposed.
John motioned that the Committee reinstate $100 to the Sewer budget
for membership in the Water Pollution- Control Federation. Carl seconded this
motion. Kevin said that he would provide the $100 from the Selectmen's account.
Deirdre motioned that $5,300 be reinstated to the Leisure Service budget.
Jim seconded the motion. Kevin noted that he would support a $6,000 increase
which would allow for some semblance of a program. Kevin was recommending
$800 for expenses and $5,200 in the salary account. Deirdre amended her motion
to $6,000 ($800 for expenses and $5,200 for salary) . Jim seconded the motion.
There was unanimous agreement.
