. 2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> r June 19,2000 <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE_ <br /> Correspondence from Cape Cod Children's Museum: <br /> Correspondence was received from the Cape Cod Children's Museum <br /> dated June 5, 2000 in appreciation to Fire Chief George Baker and the <br /> Mashpee Firefighters who participated in the Stand for Children Day. The <br /> demonstration helped to promote the health and safety of the children in <br /> the community. <br /> Police Department—Herrin Violations: <br /> Correspondence was received from Acting Police Chief Maurice Cooper <br /> dated June 6, 2000 relative to the enforcement action taken by the Police <br /> Department for Herring Violations. <br /> Alleged violations of illegal herring fishing have been investigated and <br /> Town of Mashpee by-law citations was issued to alleged violations. The <br /> Department is expected to develop a law enforcement operational plan to <br /> include police surveillance next season. <br /> The Selectmen agreed to sponsor an article for the October Town Meeting <br /> to obtain additional funding for the Town Herring Warden. The article <br /> will extend the hours of the Waterways Assistants during the months of <br /> April and May. Efforts will be coordinated with the Tribal Council, <br /> Tribal Council Memorandum of Understanding <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council President Glenn Marshall <br /> was present to discuss the Tribe-Town Memorandum of Understanding <br /> with the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Mr. Marshall requested the Board seek the assistance of any law firm with <br /> the exception of Hale & Dorr to secure action to support an expedited <br /> congressional resolution of the Tribe's federal recognition process. <br /> The,Selectmen agreed that unconditional discussions shall be totally <br /> objective and unbiased with the assistance of a professional facilitator in a <br /> supportive and sincere effort to move the federal recognition process <br /> forward. <br />
