4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> September 25, 2000 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Public Hearing— Shell-fish Management Closure: <br /> Selectman Leveille opened the Public Hearing at the request of the <br /> Shellfish Commission regarding a shellfish management closure of the <br /> shellfish propagation area in Great River. The shellfish seed net area in <br /> the Great River area will be closed to shellfishing. The closed area is a <br /> 100'x200' rectangle at the south end of Great River. The rectangle is <br /> oriented cast to west with the center at approximately 41 degrees 33.6' <br /> north latitude and seventy degrees 30.9' west longitude. The corners will <br /> be marked with inflated yellow buoys labeled "Shellfish Seed Area. No <br /> Shellfishing." <br /> Joyce Mason, Assistant Town Administrator read aloud the Public <br /> Hearing notice as published. Richard York,the Shellfish Constable was <br /> present to discuss the management closure with the Board of Selectmen. <br /> i <br /> Mr. York indicated that through the Massachusetts Division of Marine <br /> Fisheries/Barnstable County Shellfish Program, at no cost to the town, <br /> 3,000,000 quahog seed would be planted. The quahog seed will be planted <br /> and covered with netting for protection. After the seed is large enough, it <br /> would be removed from the propagation area and planted in good growing <br /> areas. It was noted that the 1,000,000 scallop seed is already in trays. <br /> Being no comment,the Board motioned to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve the Shellfish <br /> Propagation Area Closure as submitted by the Shellfish Warden. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Green. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br />
