Board of Selectmen
Minutes—Verbatim
October 10, 2000
Selectman Cahalane: Do you think that we should talk to the new law firm and ask
them?...
Selectman Leveille: I think, first of all, you'd have to talk to the new law firm to find
out what contractual arrangements that they would need, and are
they even interested in taking on this case?...There-are other
issues...
Selectman Green: Another issue I have too, is about the discussion about us being
handcuffed. All we determined is that the Board of Selectmen
would make a decision, the five member Board of Selectmen, with
no reason that would handcuff the Board in any way. We have a
five member Board, we are all accessible by cell or any other
way...
Selectman Leveille: ...You can't solicit individuals...
Selectman Green: You can call a meeting and talk in two days.
Selectman Marsters: We can get...With any board... an alternate can pick up the phone
and call an attorney for any reason they want to, and now we are
saying you can't pick up the phone as an individual Selectmen and
call an attorney if we have a question that needs to be asked. We
have to call a meeting 48 hours in advance for the Board of
Selectmen. We can't work that way. Things are happening too
fast here. Why is it so dishonest to pick up the phone and talk to
your attorney?
Selectman Discussion...Audience member, let's back Kenny's
idea...
Applause.
Selectman Marsters: Maybe we wouldn't have had to spend the $25,000 if we had full
disclosure up front...We needed to figure out, what was going
on...So maybe in retrospect, we did not spend the $25,000 in the
best possible way, we didn't get the best bang for the buck, but that
is why we need a game plan now, to get the biggest bang for the
buck.
7
