Board of Selectmen
Minutes—Verbatim
October 10, 2000
Selectman Leveille: Okay... We can talk about this...as a follow-up...other steps to
acquire that information... let's wait and see...
Selectman Marsters: I agree.
John Ferguson: Do we have a time period?
Selectman Leveille: I would think we should have a time period on it, what shall we
say, 30 days, well, why don't we say, on the meeting of October
30'h, if we don't have...we will discuss the Tribal Council and
acquiring information...
Bob Whritenour: One thing, I am a little concerned...I'm reviewing the
correspondence in my mind right now, and to me, it is very
difficult to consume all of the elements that you have mentioned
without coming across to be prevocative...I should think that if we
are attempting to enter into an era of full disclosure, trying to get
all of the information, send a letter to them...and within 30 days,
do this and this...
Selectman Marsters: Just ask them. Don't even give them a time frame. Just ask them.
Selectman Cahalan: Can we do what I have been saying all along, give us your wish
Iist.
Selectman Marsters: Right.
Selectman Cahalane: You know...
Selectman Leveille: Okay, also, we talked about sending a letter to the Bureau of Indian
Affairs indicating that we... are opposition to these two Bills.
Selectman Cahalane: Do we want to do that?
Selectman Green: I would make that motion that we keep the Bureau of Indian
Affairs to come down here to describe the federal recognition
process to the town. I think that would be...a start.
Selectman Leveille: I'd like to keep that a separate motion....this Bill 611...this is
dangerous when you read that.
14-
