8
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 30, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
DiMaggio Complaint Report: (continued)
Bill Hauck, Inspector of Buildings addressed the complaints and related
violations. It was noted that the applicant has also been cited for the
number of buses as the subject location. Mr. DiMaggio has been
requested to go before the Zoning Board of Appeals to determine the
expansion of non-conforming issues related to the matter. In an effort to
expedite the process, the Selectmen agreed to request that this matter
receive prompt ZBA attention.
Mr. DiMaggio was present, and agreed to conduct immediate mitigation
measures to bring forth a resolution to the situation. It was noted that the
clean-up process has begun, and the buses have been relocated away from
the residential area. A fence shall be installed to reduce noise and exhaust
when size obligations have been determined.
Correspondence was received from the Conservation Commission dated
October 16, 2000 with respect to this regard. There are no wetlands issues
or conservation land involved in the matter of complaint.
Veronica Warden, Assistant Health Agent indicated that she met with
regulatory officials on this date. The Board of Health is scheduled to
conduct a re-inspection of the property on November 8, 2000. Ms.
Warden indicated that many of the issues should be addressed by this
time.
Fire Chief George Baker suggested that the clean-up process move
quickly, but the matter should proceed with caution in an effort to identify
all environmental issues. Mr. Baker related concern with respect to the
underground storage tanks, paint cans on site and the large quantity of
undetermined waste presently stored on site. Chief Baker urged positive
identification of the waste oil material and made note of contaminated soil
detection. In addition, Mr. Baker recommended that the bus arrangement
be closely monitored to ensure safety and compliance.
Randy Peters, Jr. stated that the main concern of the area residents is the
odor of diesel fuel. He requested an update from the Building Department
on the ongoing activities relative to this matter.
f
