Mr. Whritenour stated that there were very few
increased hours and that the Selectmen tried to only increase where
totally necessary. Ms. Greelish asked how the Harbormaster is a
greater priority than the Town Accountant's Office or the
Conservation Office? Mr. Whritenour explained that it was a big
priority to have the Harbormaster full time. Mr. Ferriday asked
what has changed in Mashpee that the Town needs a full time
Harbormaster when they never needed it before? Mr-. Whr.-itenour
suggested-d scuss- ngA-with the_ Selectmen.
Mr. Whritenour stated that a key consideration was the actual cost
of running the new high school. It would cost the Town $4,000,000 to operate.
ASSESSORS - Denise Sullivan stepped down from this discussion. Ms.
Greelish asked if the Assessors salaries had reclassifications in
them? Mr. Whritenour stated that no they did not, but would need
to be added if reclassifications were approved. Mr. Goggin asked
about a revaluation. Mr. Whritenour stated that it was included in
an Article, but not in the budget.
TREASURER - Ms. Greelish mentioned that the Treasurer had a 9%
increase for herself included in the budget. Mr. Whritenour stated
that the Selectmen did not approve that. Mr. Goggin asked why they
were not increasing her the two 2% increases. Mr. Whritenour
stated that she was an elected official and the Selectmen felt that
they should not recommend the increase.
PERSONNEL - Mr. Whritenour stated that the Selectmen recommended
the Human Resource Director in their budget. There is also
budgeted an 18 hour floating clerk. The position already exists
but has not yet been funded. The floating clerk will be utilized
by various departments but will be funded by Personnel.
TOWN CLERK -- Ms. king asked why the Town Clerk got a raise of $645
from the Selectmen? Mr. Whritenour stated that she should bring
that up at the joint meeting. There was also a question as to why
the Selectmen recommended the Town Clerk's 20 hour part time person
be changed from a grade 2 to a grade 10. The Selectmen had
increased her hours from 18 to 20 and raised her grade. Mr.
Whritenour felt that a solution to this would be to prepare an
article bringing 18 hour positions back to 20 hours.
