Both Ms. Dunivan and Ms. <br /> Gibbs agreed. Mr. Ferriday stated that there should be a history <br /> of what happens to these students, especially now with the high <br /> school about to be built. Dr. Demoura asked the Finance Committee <br /> for their recommendation. Mr. Goggin responded that the Committee <br /> had not voted on a recommendation as of this meeting. Mr. Ferriday <br /> stated that the Finance Committee is trying to nurture our young <br /> people. Education is one facet, but there are many other things <br /> that are vitally important. He indicated that it is not an easy <br /> job, with the current economic situation the Town is in. Ms. <br /> Greelish also commented that there are various departments in the <br /> Town who also feel that they are a very important part in the <br /> nurturing of children. She mentioned that just this evening <br /> Leisure Services was in and everything they are trying to do is in <br /> the youth's best interest. She also stated that if the DPW, <br /> Library, Police, etc were at the meeting they to would agree that <br /> they needed all their requests, for the benefit of the children. <br /> Ms. Dunivan stated that it was disgusting that the Tax Collector <br /> has a deficit of $4 million. Ms. King agreed. Ms. Greelish stated <br /> that there are many families who cannot pay their taxes, and the <br /> students in the School system are going home to these families. <br /> Dr. DeMoura again stated the need for a high school principal to be <br /> there from day one. Ms. Dunivan disagreed, but she felt a <br /> principal would definitely be needed by January or February. <br /> Mr. Ferriday asked if there were any other agencies out there who <br /> were helping the School Department with these dysfunctional <br /> families? He did not believe that it was the sole responsibility <br /> of the School System. <br /> The School Committee mentioned that they thought it would be <br /> beneficial to the Finance Committee to meet with the School <br /> Council. According to the School Committee members present, the <br /> Council is being very demanding of what they want and are somewhat <br /> biased by the fact that they are elected by parents of the <br /> community. Janice Mills stated that in her opinion, it would be <br /> very beneficial for the Finance Committee to meet with the School <br /> Councils. <br /> Mrs. Dunivan asked if the Finance Committee needed Town Meeting <br /> vote every year to place money into Stabilization? Mr. Goggin <br /> stated that yes and in October of last year, the Finance Committee <br /> into Stabilization. He also informed her that it <br /> needed 2/3rds vote to be removed. The School Committee and Dr. <br /> DeMoura left the meeting at 9:OOPM. <br /> Mr. Goggin asked what the assessment was of the meeting from the <br /> members present.
