Page 5
right on target. Ms. King, Ms. Greelish and Mr. Ferriday also
agreed. Mr. Ferriday mentioned meeting with the two school
councils. Mr. Coggin felt that it could wait until after Town
Meeting. Ms. Greelish stated that she would like to invite them to
come in so that the Finance Committee could explain their
recommendation and long range plan.
Mr. Coggin asked if the members present were willing to vote on the
recommendation for the School Department's budget. The Committee
agreed that they were. Marcia King MOTIONED to fund the School
Department $6,107,631. Denise Sullivan seconded the Motion and
members voted unanimously 5-0. This figure is the figure stated in
the Long Range Plan for Mashpee.
OTHER BUSINESS
Ms. Greelish stated that she met with Cable Vision and they agreed
to do a four part series on the finances of the Town leading up to
Town Meeting.
Ms. Sullivan asked what the Committee felt they should do about the
request for a part time conservation agent? The Committee agreed
that it would be inconsistent to recommend a new position here and
not in other departments. She felt that the Committee should not
recommend for consistency sake. Ms. Sullivan also asked about the
Shellfish Constable. Marcia King MOTIONED to move Mr. York back to
a part time position with the same schedule as the Harbormaster.
Denise Sullivan seconded the Motion and members voted unanimously
5-0.
Ms. Greelish stated that it was her opinion that the Committee
should remove Stabilization from the May Town Meeting and leave it
for the October Town Meeting only when the year closes. She felt
that it did not look good if they were cutting hours and not
funding other desperately needed positions. Ms. King stated that
she also had a problem with taxing to save. Ms. Greelish stated
that if they could just get through the May Town Meeting without
spending Stabilization and then place money into the Account in
October. Mr. Coggin felt that Stabilization should be dealt with
both in May and October.
Mr. Coggin suggested discussing requested capital items. He stated
that sergeant Clancy called re: leasing police vehicles and would
get requested information out to the Finance Committee. Mr. Coggin
felt that old vehicles should be sold outright. He commented that
if they continued to pass down old vehicles every one in the Town
would soon be driving Town vehicles. The capital items that the
Finance Committee agreed to recommend were as follows: $15,000
copier-Town Hall; $10,286 computer-Police; $55, 322 cruisers-Police;
$12,000 defibrillator-Fire; $7,000 Hurst rescue tool-Fire; $8,495
cargo van-Animal Control (if the old vehicle is sold outright) ;
$3 ,000 outboard motor-Shellfish; $38,000 medium dump truck-DPW; and
