M
Page 3
Account for funding of the High Sachem situation. Hopefully, the
Board of Health can part with $18,800 and then $4,000 could be used
for summer help. Marcia King felt that the Town should do buy
backs for vacation time, so that Mr. Taylor would not run into this
situation every June.
FY95 OMNIBUS ARTICLE
The Finance Committee went through the Omnibus Article and
finalized their recommendations. Mr. Ferriday printed the final
copy for submission. Their recommendations were as follows:
(PLEASE SEE ATTACHED)
There was a discussion in regard to the hiring of four fire
fighters. Again Ms. Greelish mentioned that she was uncomfortable
hiring any new fire fighters without the contract completed. Mr.
Dunivan mentioned his anger that the Finance Committee is still not
involved with the contract process, and that they are still
uninformed. Ms. King stated that she would rather not hire any new
fire fighters without their contracts being settled. Mr. Dunivan
mentioned that the Fire Department, unlike the Police Department,
shows a direct reduction in overtime and they could bring this
reduction right through 1996. Mr. Dunivan requested that the
Police Department do the same, but they did not. The Finance
Committee agreed to go along with the Selectmen's number of
$985,000 for the Fire Department Salary and Wage.
The Waterways Commission was invited to attend the meeting and came
into the meeting at 9:OOPM.
Ms. Greelish asked Mr. Gordon, what would suffer by not
recommending a full time Harbormaster? Mr. Gordon had a prepared
presentation and started off the discussion by stating what he
feels the Department needs is 3 good boats/1 work boat and new
buoys, which they have through receipts. They need a full time
Harbormaster and a new pick up truck. The pick up truck needs
$4,000 in repairs, and is in its third time around on its odometer.
The Department is requesting a full size F250 Ford Pickup truck,
bare boned that would last 10 years. The cost is approximately
$16,000. The Department need a four wheel drive truck. Mr.
Dunivan mentioned that the Town is trying to put a leasing program
in place and wouldn't it make sense to lease this as well? Ms.
Greelish mentioned the possibility of getting a used truck from the
Fire Department. Ms. Sullivan asked what would happen to the truck
now being used if the Department got a new truck? Mr. Gordon was
not sure because it is the Town's property. Mr. Gordon mentioned
that if the Department gets the new truck then the only request in
the near future will be for the purchase of outboard motors, which
could possibly come out of Harbormaster's receipts. Back to the
question of the full time Harbormaster, it was asked by the Finance
Committee why he was needed full time in the dead of winter? Mr.
