,
Page 2
Mr. Whritenour also suggested that the Finance Committee consider
that the computer consultant become a full time position. Mr.
Goggin asked if the request could be modified to read for Kopelman
. and Paige for their normal bills. There was a question as to why
the school budget did not cover its legal expenses? Mr. Whritenour
explained that the Town has always paid the school's legal bills.
Mr. Whritenour did state that he would sit down with the Board of
Selectmen and the School Committee and discuss the school's legal
bills and how they are paid. Mr. Goggin asked that Mr. Whritenour
provide for Ms. Sullivan the following morning a list of bills that
will be paid by this $22 ,000. John Ferriday MOTIONED to transfer
$22,000 from the Reserve Fund to the Legal , engineering and
Consulting Account, with the provision that the Executive Secretary
would provide Ms. Sullivan with an exact list of bills to be paid
by this money. Juan Bacigalupi seconded the Motion and members
voted unanimously 4-0.
CORRESPONDENCE
There was a letter to the Committee from Dr. DeMoura indicating
that the School Committee had conflicts in their schedule and could
not meet with the Committee on June 28th, but would like to meet
with them on July 12th. The Finance Committee discussed this
alternate date and decided that July 26th would be a better night
to meet with the School Committee. Mr. Goggin asked the recording
secretary to notify the Superintendent's secretary of the conflict
• in their schedule and set up a meeting date for July 26 , 1994 at
7:OOPM.
Ms. King also mentioned that the Department of Revenue will be in
Town on August 5, 1994 from 10:OOAM to 12:OOPM to explain all of
the formulas regarding the Education Reform Bill. The Finance
Committee asked her to request the date be changed to August 12th.
Ms. King stated that she would, and that she would also speak to
Maryanne Gibbs about the workshop. Mr. Whritenour stated that he
thought it was an excellent idea to have Marcia King and Dr.
Demoura discuss the school budget earlier in the budget process.
He felt it would be very helpful to have the two work together.
There was a notice of the closing of the Warrant for the October
Annual Town Meeting. The Town Meeting will be held on October 3 ,
1994 at 7 : 30PM at the Mashpee Middle School Gymnasium. The Warrant
will close at 4: 30PM on Monday, August 8, 1994.
The Finance Committee received a copy of the Board of Selectmen's
liaison assignments (attached) .
Mr. Whritenour gave the Committee a copy of a letter sent to Thomas
S. Cahir, State Representative from the Board of Selectmen
regarding the petition for legislation relating to Article 10,
Capital Replacement, which was passed at the May Town Meeting.
•
