Mr. Bacigalupi stated that if the School Department
was considering purchasing more than one computer it would total
more than $1.0,000 and should be added to their capital requests.
Mr. Bacigalupi stated that the Capital Replacement Program was
formed so that taxpayers would have some idea of what big purchases
or repairs would be needed within the fiscal years 1998-2001 . Mr.
Bacigalupi suggested that Dr. DeMoura check with the Executive
Secretary.
Certain items requested on the Capital Improvement summary form
were replacement of a school van. Dr. DeMoura explained that the
current station wagon that they are using is in very bad condition.
They would like to purchase a grey van like the others they drive.
They are requesting a new copier for Dr. DeMoura's office. Another
request is for a lawn mower. Mr. Golub asked if the School
Committee had considered hiring an outside service for lawn mowing
and snow removal? Dr. DeMoura answered that they had thought about
it, but was waiting until the high school opened so the contract
would be for the three schools. Mr. Golub thought it was important
to research this route before purchasing a new Lawn mower for
$22 ,000. it was Mr. Golub's opinion that the acquisition was
superfluous. Mr. Goggin suggested that at future meetings they could look
at the Foundation Budget for a starting point. Mr. Goggin
mentioned that Education is the Finance Committee's number one
priority and he hoped at future meetings the two Committees could
work together on meeting the education requirements of the children
in Mashpee.
Ms. Janice Mills suggested working with other large departments to
form a priority system so that large capital items could be
requested and purchased but in different fiscal years.
