Z Board of Selectmen Minutes February 22, 1999 PUBLIC COMMENT: (continued) Town Meeting Article—Cable Access Equipment: Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to place the above topic as an agenda item of the Board of Selectmen. Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to sponsor a Town Meeting article in the amount of$25,000 for the purpose of funding cable access equipment to televise general governmental meetings. Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. The Board expressed appreciation to Mrs. Harsch for her dedication j in providing local cable access to the citizens of Mashpee. APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: Representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were present to discuss their intention to develop a Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The plan will be a practical guide for managing the refuge and protecting wildlife habitat over the next 10 to 15 years. It was noted that the National Wildlife Refuge system encompasses over 92 million acres nation-wide with over 500 National Wildlife Refuges. Project leader,Bud Oliveira discussed the planning process. A public meeting will be held in Mashpee on March 18, 1999. All abutters and groups within the refuge will be notified. It is the consensus of the Board to post the meeting and advertise on local cable television. The public is invited to solicit comment with respect to the management of federal lands. A draft is anticipated to be released in April of 2000. The final environmental impact statement is scheduled to be distributed the following year.
