Z <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 22, 1999 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: (continued) <br /> Town Meeting Article—Cable Access Equipment: <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to place the above topic as <br /> an agenda item of the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to sponsor a Town Meeting <br /> article in the amount of$25,000 for the purpose of funding cable <br /> access equipment to televise general governmental meetings. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> The Board expressed appreciation to Mrs. Harsch for her dedication j <br /> in providing local cable access to the citizens of Mashpee. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: <br /> Representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were present to <br /> discuss their intention to develop a Comprehensive Conservation Plan for <br /> the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge Complex. <br /> The plan will be a practical guide for managing the refuge and protecting <br /> wildlife habitat over the next 10 to 15 years. It was noted that the <br /> National Wildlife Refuge system encompasses over 92 million acres <br /> nation-wide with over 500 National Wildlife Refuges. <br /> Project leader,Bud Oliveira discussed the planning process. A public <br /> meeting will be held in Mashpee on March 18, 1999. All abutters and <br /> groups within the refuge will be notified. It is the consensus of the Board <br /> to post the meeting and advertise on local cable television. <br /> The public is invited to solicit comment with respect to the management of <br /> federal lands. A draft is anticipated to be released in April of 2000. The <br /> final environmental impact statement is scheduled to be distributed the <br /> following year. <br />
