4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 22, 1999 <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> Corres ndence from Leisure Services Director re: Mashpee Learning <br /> Center: <br /> Gus Frederick, the Leisure Services Director submitted a memo to the <br /> Selectmen dated February 11, 1999 requesting support to obtain grant <br /> funding to create three (3) community learning centers to open at the three <br /> existing public school facilities. <br /> The U.S. Department of Education is offering the grant known as The 21 st <br /> Century Learning Center. Our project goal would combine the results of <br /> raising scores of student participants' core subjects,MCAS scores, and to <br /> encourage and provide the opportunity to pursue recreational, artistic,and <br /> life-skill interests, and to create a nurturing,drug-free learning <br /> environment for the community. <br /> The Mashpee Learning Center will be developed by representative of, and <br /> inclusive of all ages, nationalities, and economic levels that make up the <br /> Town of Mashpee. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to support the grant application to <br /> the U.S. Department of Education for the 21"Century Learning <br /> Center as defined. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> Public Access Board Memo: <br /> Selectman Caffyn discussed the proposal of Mr. Ellis,Harbor Master to <br /> the Public Access Board requesting permission to clear and construct <br /> additional public parking spaces at the end of Wading Place Road_ <br /> The Selectmen and Popponesset Beach Association should be advised of <br /> the intent indicated Selectman Caffyn in concern. It was noted that the <br /> Conservation Commission has scheduled a hearing on this matter in early <br /> March. Essential information will be distributed to applicable parties. <br />
