Board of Selectmen Minutes 7 April 27, 1998 AP-EMIDENIS Lake Mmmment,,.Committee: Several members of the Lake Management Committee and Conservation Commission were present to review the progress on the Mashpee Pond water level management program/permit, and to discuss general lake management activities with members of the Board of Selectmen. It was noted that James McGonagle, Chairman of the Lake Management Committee was unable to attend the meeting as a result of short notice, and prior commitments. Discussion followed with regards to the appropriate role of the Lake Management Committee. Mr. Whritenour, Executive Secretary indicated that the committee is encouraged to monitor and advise members of the Board of Selectmen on all aspects of the plan while serving as an advisory committee to the Board of Selectmen. All members of the Lake Management Committee shall be cognizant of meetings in advance that shall be duly posted with the Office of the Town Clerk, and held at the Mashpee Town Hall. Mr. Whritenour added that it is critical that all parties work together to address the aspect of pond level management. Selectman Frye commended the efforts of Mr. McGonagle,the Lake Management Committee, Conservation Commission, and area residents. Bob Sherman, Conservation Agent presented a memo to the Board dated April 24, 1998 relative to this matter. It was noted that the Conservation Commission is awaiting written comment from the Mass. Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program. The Natural &Endangered Species Program has expressed reservations about potential impacts to rare species in shallow areas of the Pond. In other business, the Conservation is working to develop a job description for the monitoring/water-level adjustment position.
